Power

With God All Things

Have you ever thought about the power available to us in Christ? This morning I was completely overwhelmed as I thought about just that.  It was like gazing into a starry sky on a very clear night and trying to see the end of the universe.  My mind just sort of shuts down and says, “Can’t do this-just be in awe”.  It is that same feeling when I try to comprehend the power of God. I just have to step back and stand in awe. Let’s look at a verse that most of us have quoted many times.

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all THINGS are possible.”

This verse refers to salvation which is truly the most difficult of all THINGS. The power involved in our salvation is all of the power of Christ’s death on the cross, taking the weight of our sin upon Him, and His defeat of eternal death through His glorious resurrection. I don’t know about you, but often I forget about the awesome power involved in taking a soul from Hell to Heaven. {Not lightweight stuff}

The word Power in the Greek is dunamis or dynamis. I can’t help but think dynamite which can be powerful, but nothing compared to the power of the resurrection available to us. I am so glad that God realigned my thinking this morning. You see if Christ can save me than He can also help me with that same power to overcome anything else that is standing in my way of becoming more like Christ.

Consider 2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh

On our own we have no chance against the weapons used against us. But, we are not on our own! 2 Corinthians 10:4 informs us that our weapons have divine power to take down the strongholds of the enemy. We have every advantage to crush the enemy-ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

Before any of us get carried away with all of this power, we should remember a couple of things. First, it is not our power, but power available to us through Christ. Not our power, but Christ’s power. Second, remember Paul’s thorn that he prayed to be removed? In 2 Corinthians 12:9 you can read what the Lord said to Paul.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

We must be weak. What that means exactly for each one of us, I think, is different. I do think that no matter who we are it does mean being yielded; mind, body, and spirit to the Lord. Said another way, we need to completely give ourselves to Him. That is much easier to write than to live and it is a daily prayer for me.

If you can, take some time to gaze up at a clear starry sky tonight. Or just think about the creation around you. Get lost in the power of that and know that the same power is available to you through the same creator.

Much Grace
